I’ve been doing some light experimentation with the YouTube algorithm lately (partly because Substack is practically invisible when it comes to search), and the results are… telling. Believe it or not, whenever I use an AI-generated girl in the thumbnail, those videos get pushed way more aggressively in the “up next” queue. Consistently.
So what’s really driving that? Is the algorithm hardwired to prioritize sexualized imagery, propping up an already porn-saturated media landscape? Or are viewers just so conditioned to click on superficial bait that the system is simply reflecting their appetite? Either way, it feels like a self-reinforcing loop: human impulse feeds the algorithm, and the algorithm feeds it right back: louder, faster, and dumber.
