Beautifully written, Wout.

It doesn’t move me emotionally, but it does bring a certain awareness. How deeply we’ve come to believe in the value of measuring, planning, and optimizing — as if life only has meaning when it can be divided and scheduled.

I embraced it myself for years. Wore a beautiful watch, wrote with precision, lived efficiently. But fortunately, I’m with Jorien — your mother — who has never cared much for time. She reminds me that not everything needs to fit into hours and boxes.

Sometimes, just being is enough.

Haha, thanks Ron — yeah, it doesn’t move me either, but maybe that says more about the two of us!

I think there’s something addictive about trying to live outside the system. But the irony is, the further out you go, the harder it is to step back into a world that seems so illogically structured.

Most of the time, all this structure just makes us forget what we were trying to structure in the first place. Like how everyone wears a watch, yet still shows up late — riddle me this.

I really like your mind, Wout. It is one of the great ones in this or any time. (Used the measurement reference for fun.)
